Hi I bumped into your blog by accident and this topic is indeed interesting. Firstly, assumptions are dangerous - I think, you think... - danger zone! Yes, we need to trust our partners (that's for sure!) but we also want them to respect us and not abuse the trust that we give them. It is also our responsibility to make our partner feels secure and comfortable. Trust doesn't just come by saying I trust her/him. I have seen best friends who just simply hang out and have a drink, but also some best friends who can get all cuddly and cosy with each other (not sure if you would consider that normal and simple - to them it is - but how would you feel if your partner thinks this is normal because they are best friends, and would she/he thinks it's OK if you do the same thing?). I agree with Sin about finding the balance in the friendship. We need to know our boundaries as a good/best friend, respecting your friend's partner and keeping within the line. Trust involves an array of complex feeling. It takes both sides' responsibility to work on it together as a couple to gain a mutual understanding on this point. It takes a lot of effort on building the foundation on mutual trust.
